According to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, overseas spending by Chinese tourists increased 12% year-on-year in 2016 to US$261 billion. This continues a long-running trend of double-digit growth, which has now been achieved every year since 2004 and saw China become the world’s most valuable outbound tourism market in 2012. Singapore Airlines has signed a deal that will significantly expand its route network in Europe. The national carrier has penned a Memorandum of Understanding with Air France-KLM to codeshare on multiple routes from Paris. Effective 27 April 2017, SIA will place its ‘SQ’ flight code on Air France-operated flights from the French capital to Aberdeen, Bordeaux, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Lyon, Madrid, Marseille, Newcastle, Nice and Toulouse.
Asia’s most populous countries are among the fastest-growing markets in the world for air travel, according to the latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) report. A total of 3.8 billion passengers travelled by air in 2016, up from 3.5bn the previous year. Of which, Indonesia moved up two positions this year, to sixth, with 116m passenger departures. Read More
